CHANGING PERFORMANCE CULTURE: AKILI 2020 WINTER SHOWCASE

The COVID-19 pandemic rocked the world in March 2020. Akili Academy went into a tailspin like every other school in the country. The pandemic significantly affected performing arts enrichments and how we could continue our routine of teaching and presenting a final product, the performance.

Drawing on my previous experiences as a content creator and musician, I determined that the show would go on virtually. For the show to go on meant building a website, filming and editing content with my own equipment, and coaching a team to present the 2020 Akili Winter Showcase. I was also asked to write and produce a school song to build morale which our percussion teacher, Kirk House, performed.

The showcase was such a success that it set a standard for having an in-person and virtual plan to deliver high-quality performances despite ever-changing COVID restrictions.
